Cooked or Raw? Which one do you log?

I had an interesting question from a nutrition client today about whether they should log the ‘Raw’ or ‘Cooked weight’ of food they were eating in their food tracking app.

In this case the food was Chicken breast.

The answer?

Actually it doesn’t matter, as long as you do the same each time you log.

The biggest issue with logging your food is error in logging. So keeping as much consistency as you can becomes more important. Even when it comes to consistent error!

Logging one food item with a small error does not matter if you always do it the same way, as we are looking for body composition changes over time, and together we will adjust your intake on a more general level, which will allow for small errors in the foods you log.

So whether its cooked or raw. Weigh it, scan it and log it. Just always do it the same way.
