Can you keep beat the instructor?
Tabata focusses on high intensity interval training (HIIT). A fast paced, body weight class that ramps up your heart rate and keeps it high for 30 minutes. Your body will be moving, and moving quickly.
Typically using the formula 20 second on, 10 seconds off, you will hit each movement fast for a short period of time, before a quick breather and you go again.
The sessions are just 30 minutes long, so you can really hit it hard, it’s over before you know it. Push your ability to use your own body weight to get the maximum workout in the minimum time. Can you do more reps than the instructor? Now there’s a challenge. This session usually follows a 30 minute spin class, why not double up and hit two sessions in a row!
Push your limits and compete against yourself.
Tabata is as intense as you want to make it. The short, sharp bursts of movement allow you to push your limits within your capabilities or how you are feeling that day. If you are feeling good, push, push, push! Work hard for a short period of time and then take a breather. Count your reps achieved in the 20 second window and try and match it the next time round.
It’s a body weight class that suits all abilities. You are only up against yourself. If you are feeling uber competitive, you can try and beat the instructor who will be doing the class at the same time as you!
The range of exercises gives this class variety. No two sessions are the same.
If you are short on time, Tabata is perfect to squeeze in to give you that endorphin injection that moving your body brings.
